WELCOME

The Edina B Williams Foundation, has a single goal; shine the light on students within the community and provide acts of services to others. Through community involvement and support, students will have the opportunity to receive financial assistance to achieve their highest potential.

Our Story

Edina B. Williams, much loved by her students and community, was a compassionate and powerful educator. She was not only a loving mother to her own children, but a mother figure to hundreds of children on the island of St. Croix Virgin Islands. Her classroom was a whimsical place where books came alive, and learning was an adventure. With role play, book parades complete with full costumes, sing-a-longs, and games, every book came alive in full color, delivering an escape from the everyday.

Literacy is one of the most important skills needed in a child’s life. Allowing a child to read invites them to expand their minds. As some face adversities such as access to books, technological advances, or even the loss of interest in reading, a single book can help spark a child’s determination to become great and inspire new ways of thinking. The mind of a child should be filled with knowledge and should be provided an environment to foster curiosity and encourage imagination. Edina Williams became a teacher and did just that. With her passion for education, she received a Bachelor of Education degree from Hunter College and furthered her education by receiving a Masters of Education from the University of the Virgin Island (UVI).

With community involvement and support, students will continue to feel her passion for education through the Edina B Williams Foundation for Education and its commitment to her legacy. Providing educational materials for elementary school students, financial support to underdeveloped schools, and scholarships for qualified graduating high school seniors, we aim to help foster educational development.

The groundwork for knowledge starts at a young age; Mrs. Williams was a vessel that made it possible for many of her students, and others, to grow a passion for reading and education. This foundation was formed to continue her profound legacy.
